Frequently Asked Questions
Overnight Prints offers a FAQ ( Frequently Asked Questions ) page to help understand some of the common problems and concerns customers have regarding the full-colour printing process, turnaround time, and payment questions.

In this FAQ you will find information about business card printing, letterhead printing, brochure printing, envelope printing and postcard printing. For example, this page explains that when printing letterhead and envelopes, we offer full bleed colour on one side. When printing postcards, business cards, brochures, and flyers, however, you have the option of full colour on both sides.

A colour guide is also available to help you determine the proper CMYK values to assign your business cards in order to achieve the colour you want. Although our discount printing prices are very reasonable, customers who are interested in our reseller and affiliate programs can find information on them here too.

We also answer questions regarding full-colour postcard printing, brochure/flyer orientation and folding, orientation before printing for all products, 4-colour postcards, business cards, and brochures/flyer, as well as questions on such topics as turnaround times and delivery.

Although you have many options to choose from when it comes to printing your postcards and business cards, this page will explain why Overnight Prints is the best choice for you!

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us via email at service@OvernightPrints.co.uk or by calling us at 020 30515655.

What is partial coating (Spot UV) ? How can I order partial coating ?

What is partial coating (Spot UV) ?

Spot UV allows you to put Highgloss UV Coating on some parts of the cards while leaving other parts uncoated. For instance, you are able to apply glossy coating to a company logo, part of a picture or text and leave the rest of the card in a matte finish. So this gives your card a special high quality outfit which nobody else can offer you for this price. Partial coating makes sense for:
  • 1. Text with an adequate font size or width of the line (over 3mm) or Logos with a diameter over 1cm.
  • 2. Partial Coating on a dark background.
Spot UV is defined per side of a card. It is a 1 bit (2 colours black and white) tiff file. Black pixels correspond to coated regions. You need to make the Spot UV file fit our file specs (see File Help).

How can I order partial coating ?

Overnightprints gives you 2 possible ways to order a partial coating to raise the quality of your business- or postcards:
  • 1. You give us an order for cutting out the part of the picture or the Logo of the card for you. This service will be charged by Overnightprints in 5 minutes steps for a price of 4£ incl. VAT each step. Of course you will get an estimation of the time we will need from our service team before we start doing this work for you. After the approval of our offer from your side please go on with step 1 to 5 to finalize your order for partial coating.
  • 2. 1)You create the Spot UV file on your own and finish the order according to the following steps.

In order to place an order with Spot UV, you will need to do the following:

1. Design the card or upload finished design through our website
2. Complete the order process - Don´t forget to choose the option "Spot UV" - Your order will be put "on hold" automatically.
3. Send your created Spot-UV file and your order number to spotuv@OvernightPrints.co.uk (please follow instructions below on how to create a SPOT UV FILE). If there may be some questions, our service team will contact you.
4. After our file experts have checked and uploaded your files, they will remove the "on hold" status of the order and your order will be forwarded to be printed.
***Please be advised that once your email has been received the process may take up to 2 business days to upload your UV file, and send your order to print.***

How do I order?
Overnight Prints now offers two different options to place your order. You are able to use our Classic Designer, or you can create the design using any of the programs listed on our FILE HELP page to create the design to your liking for upload submission.

If you are having problems with our Classic Online Designer, you will need to delete your cookies so information from other sites does not interfere with our system. For file submission via upload, we ask the files to be designed and saved in CYMK. If you save your files in any other colour mode they will be converted into CMYK mode automatically before printing. This may lead to colour variations.

Please keep in mind that our new Interactive Designer is new. We do not recommend that you solely rely on this feature to create your design because it is still a a new option. If you do experience difficulties with this designer please contact us at service@OvernightPrints.co.uk or 020 30515655.

As we are an online company, all orders must be placed and paid through our website. There are three ways to place orders with us. You can either create a card using our online designers, or you can create a card using your own design program and upload it to our website for ordering.

To use the online designer, you would simply click "PostCards starting at £....","Business Cards starting at £....", "Letterhead starting at £...." or "Brochures/Flyer starting at £....". You would then click the option that says "Classic Online Designer" or "New Interactive Designer". From there you can select a background from our premade templates, add text and images, select your quantity, add the Gloss Coating, add rounded corners if desired, and obtain shipping prices. The website will guide you completely through the checkout process.

To create a card outside of our website and upload it to our website, we ask that you follow the directions given under our "File Help" tab on our website. Once you have created the card file to our specs listed in our File Help tab, you would simply upload your file for ordering. You can do so by following the steps below.
1. Save the file(s) to your My Documents.
2. Go to our website, www.OvernightPrints.co.uk.
3. Click on the heading for the product you would like to order (ie: "Business Cards Starting at £....")
4. Click on "Upload Design"
5. Browse for the front (and back if you have one) of your card. Once the file is in the appropriate box, front and back, select "Upload" From there, the website will guide you through the uploading process.

This will give you the possibility to continue the order at a later date as described below. Once your order is completed, you have the ability to place your order on hold, edit your order, track your order and cancel your order as long as it has not yet printed. Simply log onto MY ORDERS located on the top right hand side of our website with your invoice and email address and select the option that is needed. Be sure to write down your order number prior to completing your order.
What causes colour drift and colour out of spec?
The accuracy limitations of CMYK printing are that the results can vary, sometimes greatly, depending on the range, how it is calibrated, and the particular colour you are trying to print. Even the results from different digital printers or presses can vary, so colour accuracy may be an issue, particularly if you're printing items at different times or with different printers. There are also colours that cannot be reproduced using the CMYK process - such as metallics and very bright colours. It is VERY IMPORTANT that you don't use spot colours in your document. Inevitably, the colours shift when converted to CMYK, and this could be a cause of the colour out of spec you're experiencing. A good idea for designers might be to go into the Pantone Process Book and pick a process colour that's as close to the spot colour as possible, when choosing to use a four-colour printer. Select a colour that can be printed in CMYK. Use the process colour instead; the colour is much more likely to print.
What if I am unsatisfied with the product I received?
Overnightprints guarantees a No-Risk Satisfaction Guarantee

Overnight Prints promises to do all to get your complete satisfaction. If there is a reason for dissatisfaction at any time, we'll reprint your product for free or you'll receive a voucher or a discount for your next order at Overnight Prints. In order to constantly improve and check our quality, we kindly ask you to please send us back 4-8 samples of the product in an envelope before we start the compensation process. After checking the product we will reprint your order or you will get a voucher.

Please be aware that due to the nature of four-colour printing, we cannot print every colour available on a computer monitor. We do not colour match; instead, we offer the industry standard in pleasing colour and will make any reasonable adjustments to help correct submitted files. If Overnight Prints cannot correct the file or reprint to pleasing colour standards, then we will issue an RMA and refund the purchase price. Because we want to constantly increase our quality level, we have this basic condition for refunds, that the complete product has to be send back to Overnight Prints.

If an issue arises with the printing quality of your product, please contact our Customer Service department at 020 30515655 or send an Email to service@OvernightPrints.co.uk.

Overnight Prints will correct improper cutting, colour drift, printing delays and printing quality. The customer should correct files without full bleed or with incorrect colour selection, incorrect resolution, incorrect file dimensions, visible crop marks, incorrect card orientation, and spelling or grammar errors. You can always contact our file support department if you are unable to correct these issues yourself. They will do their best to guide you to a positive result.

Before Printing it may be beneficial to read some of our guides. Below are links to useful information.

COMMON MISTAKES
Shipping information for letters and postcards
Does Overnight Prints print and ship everyday?
We print and ship Monday through Friday, excluding Public Holidays in Germany.
Why isn't my file uploading?
For business card and 148mm x 105mm postcard uploads, we accept Adobe ILLUSTRATOR and EPS files, if the files are saved as version 8 or lower. Otherwise, these files must be converted to 300 dpi pdfs, tifs, or jpgs for correct upload. Please do not submit transparent files. We cannot process multi-layered files. Please submit flattened files under 12MBs per side. For our large size postcards, letterheads, brochures/flyer and envelopes, please submit high resolution jpg's, pdfs, or LZW tifs for upload. If you are still having problems, please delete your cookies from your web browser and refresh the site, then upload. Make sure you are using Firefox or Explorer. If this fails to resolve the upload problem, you may email your files to service@OvernightPrints.co.uk for any file problems you are having. Subject the email to ATTN: File Support. You will receive a response the next business day with adjusted files or how to adjust your files so you are able to upload the files onto our website to place your order. Overnight Prints does not place orders for customers. All orders must be placed online by the customer.
Does my custom design meet the specifications?
Uploaded files must fill the entire area to the full bleed dimensions. Please view our GUIDELINES. What you see on the preview is what will be printed. Please view our MOST COMMON MISTAKES on what is considered a correct upload versus an incorrect upload. Keep in mind the preview does not represent the actual size of the card after print.
Are the colours shown on the preview screen accurate?
Colour fidelity warranted by Overnight Prints is consistent with industry standards for "pleasing colour." Overnight Prints offers no guarantee of "match-print" or "match-product" colour fidelity. Overnight Prints cannot prevent slight colour shift throughout an order. Overnight Prints does not guarantee that the colour will match the preview as it appears on a customer's monitor, as we cannot compensate for a colour variance on each customer's monitor.

We do ask all custom uploaded files to be designed in CMYK, and uploaded in CMYK. You may also upload in RGB, however the colour will be converted and may not be as accurate. If your file contains large quantities of blues and purples, it may be best to limit the magenta hues in the design to no more than 10%. If you do upload in CMYK, we ask you to design using our preferred colour profile for better colour accuracy. Overnight Prints uses the Euroscale Coated v2 colour profile. If you have any questions, please view the link RGB & CMYK for more details.
Do I receive proofs prior to print?
Overnight Prints does not send out hard copy proofs. All proofs are viewed online. What you see on the preview screen is what will be printed.
What files do we support?
We accept 300 dpi JPG, TIF and PDF files for custom upload designs. We also accept Adobe Illustrator and EPS files version 8 or lower for custom business card and 148mm x 105mm postcard uploads.
Why aren't my fonts viewing correctly?
Depending on the program you are using, you must ensure all text and images are embeded or outlined. Sometimes a font cannot be embedded. If this happens, it is because of a non-registered font, or a preview only font. You will need to substitute the font if so.
Why does my paper curl when I print on it?
The paper is slightly wet due to the ink and water being applied during the printing process. It needs about 1-2 weeks to completely dry depending on humidity. In most cases it's usable out of the box, but in high humidity places it could take a few days.
What happens if my order is delayed?
Due to the high amount of orders we receive, some orders may experience delays occasionally. Simply email us at service@OvernightPrints.co.uk or call our existing queue to rectify the situation. Overnight Prints will gladly issue a credit towards a future order.
Do all orders have to be placed online?
Yes. Overnight Prints does not accept any walk-in or orders by mail. This includes cds with files, scanned images, or hard copy prints. All orders must be placed via our website. If design assistance is needed, please email the files or request to service@OvernightPrints.co.uk. Our representatives will contact you promptly and will guide you to a sucessful file for uploading on Overnight Prints.

What are the file specifications I should design to?
For better understanding of our cutting marks and safe zones please click at Guidelines & Cutting Explained.

At Overnight Prints we allow printing to the edge of the products and we take pride in having the tightest cutting margins available. These margins are 1,61mm and are named full-bleed (green line) and safe zone (red line).

Trim Marks (Blue Line)
The product will be cut on the trim mark (blue line), however the cut may shift up to 1,61mm in any direction. Due to this shift Overnight Prints does not recommend borders of any type.

Full Bleed (Green Line)
If you wish to have coloured backgrounds or images continue to the edge of the product they must continue past the trim marks to the full bleed margin. If they do not continue to the full bleed margin you most likely will end up with white strips along the edge of the product due to our cutting tolerance.

Safe Zone (Red Line)
Text or any other elements you don't want to be trimmed off must be placed within the safe zone. If they are placed directly next to the trim mark and the cutting is off but within tolerance, the text will be chopped off. Due to our cutting process and tolerance we do not recommend borders of any kind. By our policy we are protected to cut 1,61mm outside or inside the Trim Marks.

How do I determine what way my cards need to be flipped?
Please view our Card Orientation page located here. CARD ORIENTATION
Am I able to save my design and then come back to it?
To save a design created using the Classic Designer you will have to add the card to the Shopping Cart. Once in the Shopping Cart there is a link at the bottom of the page that says "Continue to Checkout". Now choose your method of payment, enter the shipping address and confirm by clicking on "continue to checkout". Your data has been saved. Please note down your order number.

If you wish to continue editing your order, please log in on our website under "My Orders", entering your email address and your order number. Click on "Continue to checkout". You will now be directed to your shopping cart. There, you may finalize your cards by clicking on "Edit". When finished, proceed with your order.
I have my files designed and saved as .DOC, what do I do now?
If you create your artwork as a DOC file you will have to convert it into PDF before uploading it to the website. Use an appropriate program for this if you have one. Otherweise, please email your data to service@OvernightPrints.co.uk. We will convert your data for you and send them back via email. You may now upload them to our website and place your order.
Why is my Illustrator file uploading off center?
When creating your Illustrator file you must create a white background layer that completely fills the full bleed size of the file. This will prevent the file from cropping to a different file size.
